Nedbank Namibia yesterday launched the Nedbank Citi Dash, an exhilarating race designed for both novice and elite runners, set to take place on 8 September in Windhoek.

Whether you are a seasoned marathoner or just starting your running journey, this event offers a platform for everyone to shine as it aims to bring together the community in a celebration of health and athleticism.

The organiser of the Dash and a representative from Cycletec, Frank Bombosch, expressed enthusiasm for the Dash, stating that Independence Avenue in Windhoek will be closed off to accommodate runners.

During her keynote address at the launch event, minister of sport Agnes Tjongarero said there has been a surge in the number of runners. “This growth is no coincidence. Running in its simplicity is perhaps the most inclusive sport. It has a unique power to touch the lives of all Namibians, regardless of one’s age and background.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Nedbank Namibia for fostering athleticism and community engagement. Your dedication to this initiative is truly commendable,” the minister added.

Nedbank Namibia’s managing director Martha Murorua said running is a perfect metaphor for life, as both are filled with uphill battles. “Just as in running, life demands resilience and the courage to keep moving forward. The journey may be tough, but the sense of accomplishment makes every step worth it,” she said.

The event comprises two distances: a 5km and a 10km race. The race is set to start at 7h30. For elite runners participating in the 10km Dash, the qualifying time for men is set at 55 minutes, and for women at 60 minutes.

The Nedbank Citi Dash co-sponsors include Checkers, Altra Running Shoes and Cycletec.

Prize money of N$100 000 is up for grabs for the elite males and females, as well as the top U/18 male and female athletes, and the top visually-impaired and wheelchair athletes, courtesy of Nedbank’s generous sponsorship.

The 5km and 10km fun run entry fees are N$150, which includes a branded Nedbank Citi Dash t-shirt, whereas the 10km elite run entry fee is N$350, which also includes a branded Nedbank Citi Dash t-shirt.   Group entries for scholars are N$100 per entry, and online entry is possible via the Citi Dash website, as well as the Nedbank Citi Dash page on Facebook, PayToday or at Cycletec Bicycle Shop.
