Nedbank for Good coastal leg a success

Nedbank for Good coastal leg a success

The Nedbank for Good Series has completed its coastal events in the towns of Henties
Bay, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay over the past three consecutive weekends.

The events took place at the Henties Bay Golf and Lifestyle Estate on 17 August, the Rössmund Golf Course in Swakopmund on 24 August, and the Walvis Bay Golf Club on 31 August.

Series organiser Dan Zwiebel thanked all the players who took part in the three events, saying their selflessness does not go unnoticed, while recognising the role of the sponsors in making the event a success.

“We are grateful to all the golfers who participate in these tournaments as they contribute to the upliftment of our agricultural communities,” Zwiebel said.

In July, the Nedbank for Good Series celebrated a major milestone of raising N$1 million since its inception in 2020.

At Henties Bay, Fanie Nel and Wilna Bredenhann emerged victorious in the male and female competitions, respectively. Nel scored 41 points ahead of Richard Grobler, who registered 38 points in second place, and third-placed Cobus Bosman, who managed 37 points.

In the women’s competition, defending
champion Bredenhann retained her title with 30 points ahead of second-placed Celonika Robinson, who scored 26, and Wilma de Wet in third with 22 points. After Henties Bay, the event proceeded to the Rössmund Golf Course in Swakopmund, and saw a tightly-contested men’s and women’s competition.

The count-out procedure was necessary to separate the top three players, with Riaan Coetzee scoring 42 points (counted in) in position one, Rudi Auseb scoring 42 points (counted out), and John Redman scoring 42 points (counted out).

In the women’s competition, Justine Shikulo scored 36 points (counted in) ahead of last year’s winner, Tiekie de Wet, who scored 36 points (counted out) in second place, and Mariena Ludwig, who scored 30 points in third place.

At the Walvis Bay Golf Club last week Saturday, Francois Binneman came in first with a score of 41 points, followed by Jonas Niilenge in second with 38 points (counted in), and George Vink in third with 38 (counted out).

The women’s competition was won by Estelle Bothma, who scored 37 points ahead of second-placed Wilma de Wet, who scored 35 points.

Nedbank Executive for Wealth Management and Bancassurance Biniam Ghirmatsion celebrated the success of the series by emphasising Nedbank Namibia’s stance on the development of golf in the country.  “At Nedbank Namibia, we are committed to supporting our community, and are proud of the incredible success we accomplished in the Nedbank for Good Series. By coming together regularly, we can make a lasting impact and bring passionate golf players into one room with the aim of building great working relationships. These events are more than just a chance to enjoy a round of golf; they provide an opportunity to connect, network and make a legacy,” Ghirmatsion said.

This year, all the proceeds raised in the series will go directly to Agra ProVision, whose goal is to train, service and support underserved agricultural communities.

The next Nedbank for Good Series will be at the Windhoek Country Club on 14 September, before this year’s series finals take place on 4 October at Omeya.

The 2024 Nedbank for Good Series is co-sponsored by Pupkewitz Toyota, Vivo Energy Namibia, Agra, AfricaOnline, JTC Namibia, APS, Erongo Marine Enterprises, The Logistics Company Namibia, Gondwana Collection Namibia, CB Enterprises, Pupkewitz Megabuild and official media partner Future Media.
