Netball Namibia is revising its annual calender

Maurice Kambukwe

Netball Namibia (NN) secretary general Imelda Nerongo yesterday said the much-loved Netball Pent Series could still be on the cards this year but depend on the outcome of their calendar review process, and how the Covid-19 situation continues in the following months.

This year’s edition of the netball series was slated for June but had to be called off due to the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic, which, at the time, brought sporting events across the world to a halt.

Speaking to this publication yesterday, Nerongo said there still is some hope of hosting the event this year, but the federation still has to review their sporting calendar and see how they can schedule the crucial series, which has over the years seen Namibia’s Desert Jewels facing regional opponents.

“We are still busy working on our new calendar. Once we are done revising the calendar, new dates and all relevant information around the competition will be released,” she explained.

The Netball Pent Series was launched in 2017 and saw the likes of Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Swaziland participating. Zimbabwe won and Namibia ended third. Namibia then went on to win the second edition of the netball tournament in June 2018, which saw two Namibian teams, as well as Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe competing.

The series has not been staged since then.

Debmarine Namibia has been the headline sponsor of the competition.
