Netball Namibia has announced the new Debmarine Desert Jewels and men’s squads following trials held over the weekend at Patrick Iyambo Courts.
The women’s team, led by coach Julene Meyer, will represent Namibia at the Celtic Cup in Scotland from 26 to 30 November and the Africa Netball Cup in Malawi this December, which will feature nine participating nations.
The Celtic Cup will see Namibia compete against teams from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Zimbabwe and Uganda.
In addition, Netball Namibia has named a men’s squad set to compete in the Africa Netball Cup, also in Malawi, under the guidance of coach Teri Tuaire.
Returning player Grace Matyayi expressed her excitement, stating she remains committed to working hard and making the most of the opportunity.
Some notable names absent from the women’s side are Anna Kasper, Mwale Mulenamaswe and Louise “Dreamy” Kausehue. Before going to print, the coach, Meyer, did not respond to questions regarding the omission of some of these senior players.
