Shooting From The Hip

For some dude who happened to put his daily bread on the table through doctoring and balancing books as a qualified Auditor – Brrra Alpha aka Barry White’s recent brush with the country’s sport authorities and colleagues must have given him a different perception on the real world – so I thought. Wrong!! The brother would have none of these.
Instead, the thick-hide and wanderlust baritone vocalist has retreated to his favourite pastime “globe-trotting” – the defiant sport administrator spent some quality time in Pretoria last week gooing his weight behind his longtime ally, Leonard Chuene, during the Presidential Election for the Southern African Region Zone Six Athletics.
The long-serving President of Athletics South Africa won the election hands down on home turf – brushing aside advances from outgoing President Joval Rossouw of the Seychelles, whose attempt for another term in office ended in vain after Chuene chalked up a sizeable ten votes from the fourteen member affiliates.
The ambitious Chuene is on the warpath and has made it his first priority to work closely with all the affiliates to revive the ailing fortunes of athletics in the southern African region.
The International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) Cross Country Championship gets underway in earnest at Mombasa, Kenya, tomorrow and yours truly would stick his neck out and bet his last penny, Brrra B will be among the list of Chuene’s entourage to the East African country, while Namibian long-distance athletes are kicking their heels back home and wondering what kind of sin they have committed to be left at the mercy of this man going by the name of Alpha.
While on the subject of athletics, it’s good to note that despite the odds stacked against most Namibian athletes – some of them are really doing well under trying conditions.
Middle distance queen Agnes Samaria’s nagging injuries seem to be something of the past, following some impressive displays on the South African circuit where the lanky athlete is preparing for the continental showpiece to be held in Algeria later this year.
Though not exactly back to her very best, Samaria has been in impressive form of late and showed no signs of rustiness after a long absence from the track and she is currently making winning a habit after recording commendable times in both the 800 and 1??????’??
