Next Ma /Gaisa Star competition readies for third season

The Next Ma /Gaisa Star crew is hard at work preparing for the third edition of the popular singing competition.

Organised by Welwitschia Music Production, Season 3’s 13 episodes are expected to be broadcast from December 2023 on NBC1.

But before that, organisers will host a pre-launch event on 12 September at the National Theatre of Namibia backstage.

Chief organiser Steven !Naruseb said the pre-launch event aims to attract potential sponsors and garner support from companies and organisations who share their goal of promoting a trailblazing shift within Namibia’s music diaspora, in addition to spotlighting how they unearth promising talent inside the nation.

“We will have speakers at this event that have previously funded the project and are now in partnership with us. They will share their experiences working with us and their opinion about the overall objective and purpose of the said initiative,” he noted.

Elaborating on the competition, he said their purpose is to display a distinct sound that Namibia can portray to an international audience as their unique genre, showcasing Namibians’ immense cultural diversity, and replicating a Namibian person’s authentic and genuine heritage.

He added that they are striving to construct a narrative for their music that will serve as Namibia’s first documentary about the evolution of its distinctive sound, which has yet to be revealed to the rest of the world.

At the pre-launch, the season’s new judges and their qualifications will be revealed. Live music will be performed.
