NFA Cup last- 16 takes shape…as Ongos takes on Nampol

Khomas Nampol head coach Fortune Eichab expressed his satisfaction with the draw that pits his team against FC Ongos in the last-16 of the PstBet NFA Cup.

Nampol, who performed exceptionally well with a third-place finish in the recently-concluded Debmarine Namibia Premiership, were drawn against equally formidable opponents Ongos FC, who finished second in the premier league standings.

The upcoming match between the two teams promises to be intriguing, especially considering their previous encounters in the premiership, where each team secured a victory with a 3-0 scoreline.

Nampol advanced to the last-16 by defeating Swallows 4-0, while Ongos secured their spot by prevailing over Africa United with a 1-0 victory.

Reacting to the draw, Eichab stated that their match against Ongos is expected to be one of the most captivating fixtures of the last-16, with both teams eager to settle the score.

He acknowledged the difference between cup ties and league matches, highlighting the need for his team to elevate their performance.

“In cup competitions, you must be prepared to face any opponent. I am content with the draw, as we managed to avoid Mighty Gunners due to our unfavourable history against them,” Eichab commented.

“Regarding Ongos, I believe it will be a compelling contest, with both teams seeking victory based on our previous encounters in the league. This match presents another opportunity to determine the true victor.” Meanwhile, Elemu Agnus echoed Eichab’s sentiments, highlighting the distinct nature of cup matches compared to league games.

“In cup matches, victory goes to the team that desires it most. Therefore, from the outset, we must be clear about our objectives. Our sole focus now is progressing to the next round,” Agnus remarked.

“However, we recognise that Khomas Nampol poses a formidable challenge. We must approach this match with thorough preparation, considering their strong performance in the league.”

In other fixtures, Okahandja United will face Julinho Sporting from Rundu, while Chula Chula will compete against Unam.

Relegated Orlando Pirates will clash with African Stars, and Civics will confront Tigers from Shandumbala.

Young African from Gobabis will challenge Young Brazilians, and Life Fighters will square off against Oryza.

Mighty Gunners will engage Further Fighters in another highly-anticipated encounter.
