Nghitumbwa challenges top super bantamweights

Nghitumbwa challenges top super bantamweights

One of Namibia’s top world champion prospects, Fillipus “Energy” Nghitumbwa, has challenged leading Super Bantamweight contenders to the ring.

Nghitumbwa, who boasts a record of 17 fights with 15 wins, 13 by knockout, has one goal in mind – to take on the top three WBO contenders and earn a fight against Naoya Inoue.

Inoue is a Japanese boxer who has held multiple world championships in four weight classes, and is one of only three male boxers in history to become the undisputed champion in two weight classes in the “four-belt era.”

Determined to prove his worth, Nghitumbwa faced Filipino boxer John Riel Casimero on his home turf, convincingly outboxing him despite controversially not getting the decision. He followed up with a dominant and unanimous decision victory over China’s DeKang Wang and then recently demolished former world champion Yukinori Oguni with a first-round knockout in Japan.

“My immediate goal is to fight the WBO’s top three contenders, Sam Goodman, Carl Jammes Martin, and Dennis McCann. These will be tough fights, and I respect all of them, but I know I can defeat them. Once I do, Inoue will have no choice but to face me,” said a confident Nghitumbwa.

He is promoted by Nestor Tobias of MTC Nestor Sunshine Promotions, one of Africa’s most successful boxing promoters. Tobias has guided multiple world champions, including Paulus “The Hitman” Moses (former WBO and WBA lightweight world champion), Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda (former WBO bantamweight champion), and Julius Indongo (former WBA and IBF Light Welterweight world champion).

“Energy is a special fighter with incredible power and boxing intelligence,” Tobias said. “I have developed world champions before, and I see the next Super Bantamweight world champion in him. We have challenged the top WBO contenders to fight, but none is willing whether at home or away. We will go after them one by one to ensure he claims his rightful place in the division. Our message to them is simple: stop taking fights just to maintain your ranking. The top 15 contenders should face each other to create real competition,” he added.
