OMUNDAUNGILO – Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has called on Namibians to honour the legacy of the liberation struggle by uniting to build a self-reliant nation.
Delivering the keynote address at the 35th Omundaungilo constituency Heroes’ Day Commemoration at Oshihepo Centre on Saturday, Ngurare paid tribute to the heroes and heroines who sacrificed their lives for Namibia’s freedom, noting that Omundaungilo was the site of some of the fiercest battles against apartheid forces.
Ngurare outlined key priorities of the 8th administration, placing youth empowerment at the forefront. He announced the forthcoming National Youth Fund, aimed at providing financial support for young entrepreneurs to create jobs and grow businesses.
Agriculture, he said, remains central to achieving food security, with government targeting a reduction in food imports by 2030. He also stressed the urgency of delivering potable water, rural feeder roads, and electricity to households as pillars of community development.
On education and health, Ngurare reaffirmed President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s pledge of free higher education at public institutions, alongside expanding healthcare services in rural areas. Sports development, including the construction of constituency-level stadiums, also forms part of government’s agenda.
“Without the youth, you have no nation. We must build a Namibia where every child has a chance to succeed and every community is connected and empowered,” Ngurare said, urging citizens to translate the heroes’ legacy into tangible progress.
