WINDHOEK

Night Under The Stars, the usual Friday month end musical offering of Goethe Institute, is tonight featuring Tschuku Tschuku starting at seven O‘ Clock. Entrance is N$20.

Foormerly known as Jaques Mushaandja and the Tschuku Tschukus, he  brings an organic sound called Afro-Chant to the Goethe Yard: a fusion of raw chants, shambo, jazz, soul, beat, urban jive and Southern African traditional music elements. The ensemble has been finding its feet since 2010 and in 2012, the group lead singer Jacques Mushaandja released Black Bantu Child (EP), his first solo project that presented a new fluid intersection of the ancestral, folk and the contemporary sounds. In this particular offering, Mushaandja became one of the first new Namibian artists establishing an original style that follows in the footsteps of legendary Namibian singers such as the late Jackson Kaujeua, Tate Kwela and Mme Nanghili Nashima. Tschuku Music hits home. It is familiar. The music speaks of migration and the need to find personal and people’s freedom. The ensemble is made up of diverse and experienced session musicians from Namibia, Congo and Zimbabwe.
