NKURENKURU – Nkurenkuru councillor Fillipus Tenga says teamwork and collective decision-making are essential components of development.

Speaking during the first constituency development committee meeting at Nkurenkuru yesterday, Tenga called for collective decision-making to achieve the overall objective, which is to develop the constituency.
“It is very imperative and we need to take these things very seriously, so we develop our communities. We are all one; we are one body,” he stressed.

He also emphasised on principles that should govern the committee members, such as embracing teamwork, an open-door policy and information sharing to succeed.
“If this committee fails, that means we failed the constituency. It is not the councillor who fails the committee – it is us, the committee,” he stated.

Tenga highlighted some of the activities from the five-year plan of action should be identified as priority areas.
He urged the committee members to coordinate with the community to identify such needs on the ground.
“The office is not here to dictate which projects we are going to put up; it is you, yourself, who must decide which projects are feasible in your village,” Tenga added.

He also indicated that there is a need for an extension of development committees, as the villages are expanding.
Other activities will include identifying roads that need to be upgraded, visiting kindergartens, and establishing a committee to care for the elderly and vulnerable in the community.
The committee will also assist people in need of acquiring national documents.
