After successfully defending his national featherweight title against Immanuel Jason during Saturday’s Project Never Walk Alone (PNWA) boxing initiative, Martin ‘Alligator’ Mukungu cautioned his future opponents not to underestimate him as he plans to dominate the division for years to come.
The stylish and sharp-knuckled Mukungu defended his title with relative ease against the somewhat sluggish Jason in one of the main supporting bouts to the King Tee Dee vs Tim Ekandjo showdown held at the Windhoek Country Club and Resort.
And just like an alligator stubbornly protecting its territory in predator-infested waters, Mukungu equally habours no ambitions to part ways with his coveted national title and warned that he will always be ready to square off with any opponent at any given time.
“It was a good fight for me, I knew that I was going to win coming into the fight. Me and my team prepared well from the beginning and were always ready. But I still believe that I can fight much better than I did this weekend, there is still more room for improvement and I know I can do far better. I am surely going to become the best boxer in this division and all my future opponents should not think of underestimating me for one minute. I have proven my worth,” said a confident Mukungu.
Currently boasting an impressive record of eight wins and one loss from nine fights, Mukungu said he is now targeting big fights and would like to fight for a continental title in the near future as he continues to announce his unstoppable arrival on the local scene with fashionable wins.
“My team is now busy working to secure me a big fight and hopefully it will be an African title. As you know, those kind of talks about big titles normally take long but I hope it will be in the near future. But while I wait for the promoters to do their work, I will continue fighting locally and make sure that I’m ready for the big opportunity when the time comes. I looking forward to one more local fight before December.”
Also in action this past Saturday was Sakaria Amutja, who defeated Bernhard Bernhard to retain his national welterweight title, while Nestor Thomas continued with his good run with a stoppage win over Salatiels Moses in their bantamweight bout. It was not a national title fight.
In the junior welterweight, Paulus Amavila retained the title when he trounced Morsande Johannes. Jonas Erastus claimed a commanding victory over defending champion Festus Simon to win the national flyweight title.
