ONGWEDIVA – Three northern regions are facing a series of water interruptions expected to last until the end of next week.
Local authorities in the affected regions announced that the interruption is due to an unexpected equipment failure at the NamWater treatment plant in Oshakati.
According to Ongwediva Town Council spokesperson Jackson Muma, the water supply failure will affect the full-scale supply of water.
“NamWater introduced water rationing in Oshana, Ohangwena and Oshikoto,” said Muma.
He stated that in Ongwediva, the rationing started Sunday, from 21h00 till 06h00, and this will continue until the situation has normalised.
In a media statement on Tuesday, Omuthiya Town Council acting CEO Simon Nghulondo urged Omuthiya residents to spare some water for use during the interruption period.
Nghulondo said the water supply rationing will start on 7 March and will last until 10 March, from 22h00 to 05h00 in Oshikoto.
He said the exercise will be valid for those two weeks after which further notice will be given depending on the circumstances.
‘’The NamWater engineers are busy at the treatment plant to contain the situation,” he said.
At Oshakati, the interruption started on the weekend when residents spent the whole Sunday with no water.
