Windhoek
The Namibian Rugby Union has thanked Auas Motors Namibia for their contribution to rugby in the country.
Yesterday Auas Motors presented new head coach Phil Davies as well as backline coach Pieter Rossouw with courtesy vehicles to use during their stay in Namibia.
In addition, Auas Motors also made available to the NRU two Opel Vivaro passenger vans to ferry members of the national team in and around Windhoek.
This is an extension of a long relationship between the NRU and Auas Motors, which is the preferred GM dealer in Namibia.
Every year the company provides two courtesy vehicles to the NRU but this year it has increased its support to eight vehicles as the national team prepares for the Rugby World Cup in September.
Auas Motors marketing officer Gerhard Engelbrecht said at the handover that Auas Motors wants to make a significant contribution to Namibia rugby’s campaign.
“We feel it is a social responsibility to support rugby in our country, and to assist the growth of rugby and make it successful at all levels,” said Engelbrecht.
Namibian head coach Phil Davies said the contribution by the business community is crucial to the team’s success.
“It is wonderful to see local businesses support the national team in the way they have and I have to thank Auas Motors for the vehicles they made available to the team, Pieter and myself. Without it our job would be so much harder and we are really grateful,” said Davies.
Auas Motors have fully equipped dealerships in Windhoek, Gobabis and Mariental and stock the full range of Chevrolet, Opel, Isuzu, Hummer and Cadillac vehicles.
Free admission for scholars
Meanwhile, NRU is inviting all scholars in Namibia to watch for free Saturday’s 2nd Test match between Namibia and Russia in the Windhoek Draught Friendship Series at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek. All scholars wearing their schools uniform or school/sport tracksuit and come as a group will get free admission. Seats will be available on the open stands only and scholars in groups need to be seated together.
The NRU further encouraged schools to make banners and posters in support of the Namibian national team and to let the crowd know from which school they are.
The school with the most original banner and slogan stands to win a prize of N $2 000 and three rugby balls. The handover will be done after the Man of the Match ceremony.
Schools that want to make use of this invitation are encouraged to contact the NRU at info@nru.com.na by Thursday 12:00 to allow NRU to make the necessary arrangements.
