Radio personality, entertainer and MC Denzel Leroy //Naobeb, aka NSK, described his acronym, GMTM (Go Make That Money) as a motive to succeed.
NSK says #GMTM is his brainchild, now a brand that he founded in 2010. NSK, who clearly has a knack for acronyms – with NSK standing for Naobeb Se Kind – says he coined the term (#GMTM) during his time at Unam Radio in 2010.
“I rented at the time in Grysblok and had to commute to University of Namibia (Unam) every day for my show. Taxi money was always an issue, thus at times I was forced to walk from Grysblock to Unam.”
NSK at the time anchored the breakfast show, sharing the mike with Fresh FM’s Treza Cooper. The show, which was called ‘Morning Glory’, was scheduled to start at 06h00 every weekday morning.
“I had no choice. There was just no money. However, the passion for radio kept waking me up at 03h00 in the morning,” NSK recalls.
During his walks, he would meet newspaper vendors and their drive to make money for that night’s bread and tomorrow’s taxi fare inspired him to try a different income stream to supplement his passion. “It is at that point #GMTM was born,” says NSK.
“Many times we simply depend on one stream of income. We wake up, go to work, go back home and sleep. Over the weekend we drink and go to church. On Monday the cycle starts all over again.”
NSK decided to take his love for talking and entertainment outside the studio and started making extra cash in small bits and pieces by hosting school shows. It is during these school shows that he met Soniah Shitaleni, from the now defunct PlemJive Corporation. Soniah and her team helped NSK with his first big event as MC and the rest is history. Today, NSK is an established radio personality at One FM and the entertainer has turned the tide on #GMTM.
#GMTM now is a multimedia company that provides consultancy in event management, social media management and brand activations. #GMTM also provides sound, dj and MC services. “I am not yet where I want to be. The struggle still continues. Hence, until the next one, we say GMTM”.
