The Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) has hailed the just-ended senior tournament as a huge success.
The competition took place at Central Tennis Court (CTC) in Olympia, Windhoek, and attracted more than 20 tennis players in what was the final senior tournament of the year. Players competed in singles as well as doubles categories.
Tournament director Larushka Kruger, praised the high level of tennis displayed over the weekend, noting the event also played an important role in helping local athletes earn valuable points ratings as they look to establish themselves on the continental stage.
“I think it was a huge success. We had a decent number of entries for this tournament, with top players turning up to battle for honours. I am happy with how competitive the matches were, as players gave fans some great games to watch. The tournament is also crucial for those aiming to be rated on the continent,” Kruger said. In the men’s singles division, Nguvi Hinda claimed the honours after defeating Johan Theron in an exhilarating final with a 3-6, 2-6 scoreline.
Meanwhile, the pair of Mickey Alemu and SP van Wyk clinched the men’s doubles title after overcoming Hinda and Theron in their final showdown.
In the women’s singles, Maria van Schalkwyk emerged the champion, beating Elrica Nakusera convincingly 6-1, 6-1 in the final.
