Windhoek

The Namibian Table Tennis Association (NTTA) has officially released its year-end consolidated rankings in the various categories with no less than five points tourneys flowing into the standings.

In the senior men’s category, masters cup, the national open champion Heiko Fleidl successfully defended his No. 1 ranking, which he reclaimed in the 2014 season after relinquishing it to Ramon Hansen the year before.

The SKW Table Tennis Club member accumulated 1 084 points – 72 more than 2nd placed team mate Wayne Green. Roger Beukes from the Eliminators Table Tennis Club claimed 3rd spot in the men’s rankings with 1 051 points to his credit.

Fleidl topped off a great season by adding and defending top spot in the doubles category with playing partner Reinolt Schurz. The pair ended the season on 976 points, an astonishing 325 points ahead of beaten finalists Ashley Julius and Roger Beukes.

Reinhardt Stanley and Derrick Rooza finished ended in 3rd place while the top ladies player of the season award went to the highly talented Reese Saunderson. The youngster was the most consistent player in the women’s division and narrowly missed out on beating all lady players in the just ended season.

Evergreen Christa Mrozek took top honours in the final tourney of the year, the popular Windhoek Open, denying Reese victory – leaving Kaitlyn Beukes to pick up the pieces for 2nd spot, with Khutsafalo Sekolokwane from the Hochland Acers Table Tennis Club trailing in 3rd spot.

Meanwhile Ronaldo Vogel from Rehoboth High School was the top performer in the U/18 age junior men’s category. In addition to his No. 1 ranking in the junior division, Ronaldo also finished 8th overall in the men’s overall rankings.

His closest rival, Kean Tait of Windhoek Gymnasium, accumulated 1 334 points, just 24 points off the summit. Another outstanding player was Zwandile Kooper, from Mariental, who most notably won the Namibian Youth Championships against all odds in July.

Reese Saunderson (Oranjemund Private School) topped off a great season by ending as the No. 1 girls U/18 player.
Reese dominated the season by winning all U/18 girls titles and earning herself the maximum 1 400 rankings points. Runner-up was Kaitlyn Beukes with 1 380 points and third place went to Ciara Thorburn from Elnatan Privaat Skool.
