By Surihe Gaomas NKURENKURU Founding Father of the Nation and President of the SWAPO Party Sam Nujoma lashed out at what he termed “reactionary imperialists” that make use of Eurocentric local print media to cause division within the ruling party. Nujoma strongly said that the “Eurocentric local print media,” which con- tinuously targets the ruling party is “divisive, reactionary and enemies of peace and has a habit together with some of the treacherous and disgruntled elements to tarnish the name of the SWAPO Party leaders and its leadership”. “The aim of this whole exercise is to discredit the SWAPO Party and mislead the Namibian people to believe that the SWAPO Party leadership is bad. The only reason, however, is because the majority of Namibians continue to confide in the SWAPO Party and its leadership,” said Nujoma wagging his forefinger. Nujoma said as the struggle for economic independence intensifies, the enemies of peace deliberately become more vicious in an attempt to mislead the people and disturb the hard won peace and stability in the country. “We know that these elements do not represent the interests of the Namibian people. The SWAPO Party message to such unscrupulous and misguided elements is clear,” said Nujoma. Namibia is free after gaining its freedom on 21 March 1990. Since then, the SWAPO Party has stood and still stands firm to defend the gains of freedom and independence. Founding President Nujoma said Namibians must remain vigilant against reactionary and divisive forces at work who wish to reverse the gains of freedom and independence. “The SWAPO Party will not allow neo-colonialism to be wheel-chaired into Namibia by some opportunists who disturb the peace and tranquility that we enjoy today in our country. The SWAPO Party stands ready as it has always done to carry out the mandate of shaping the future destiny of Namibia and eradicate poverty, hunger and diseases,” stressed Nujoma to applause. He said the SWAPO Party government will continue to create opportunities for all Namibians through economic growth, better education, better health services and the creation of more job opportunities. “The SWAPO Party remains truly committed to the full implementation of its election manifesto and the political programme,” he said. In view of this, Nujoma appealed to all Namibians to confront the challenges that face the country in order to achieve Vision 2030. “Let us all face these with optimism, dedication, commitment, hard work and in unity with only one resolve, namely, to encourage every Namibian to participate in economic development and enhance the general welfare of all our citizens.” The Father of the Namibian Nation also called on all SWAPO Party members to dedicate 2007 as the year of hard work and thereby ensure that all government development programmes are implemented timeouesly, in line with the party manifesto. “We must remain united and respect the constitution of the SWAPO Party. Unity and solidarity must become the guiding light in all our efforts, as we lead our country and its people towards the realization of Vision 2030,” added Nujoma. At the same time the SWAPO Party president condemned the recent spate of immoral behaviour of violent crimes against elderly and vulnerable people in society. The country recently witnessed the killing of mothers and fathers around the country by young people – a matter of grave concern, said Nujoma. “This is totally un-Namibian,” said Nujoma again waving his finger to the crowd. “We must reject and condemn this kind of behaviour where young men kill their mothers, fathers and elderly. Physical attacks on our mothers and young girls must be condemned and rejected by all genuine Namibians,” he added.
