KATIMA MULILO – No action has been taken yet against the nurse who scalded a security guard with hot water over a week ago at Sibbinda clinic.

However, the nurse has since been transferred to another clinic purportedly for her own safety.

The nurse Ronnety Liswaniso is accused of having poured boiling water on the guard after he called her to attend to patients who were awaiting treatment.

The security guard sustained serious abdominal burns prompting an angry mob of Sibbinda residents to storm the clinic baying for the blood of the unapologetic nurse.

Police had to be called in to restore order.

Acting Regional Health Director, Agnes Mwilima, said investigations were still ongoing to ascertain the details of the incident before any action is taken.

“We are still busy collecting evidence to make sure that each side gives their side of the story so that the action we take is just and fair,” said the caretaker regional health director.

She could however not say how long it would take before any action is taken.

Mwilima further noted that for her own safety, the nurse was removed from the clinic and is temporarily stationed in Katima Mulilo.

“She is working in Katima for now as we try to find a solution. We did this because the community is very angry with her and taking her back might jeopardise her safety,” said Mwilima.

Meanwhile, the elderly security guard, Fredrick Muhupulo, has been put on sick leave since last week following the incident.

Information obtained indicates that Muhupulo opened a criminal case against the nurse and that she was arrested on the same day and paid bail.

This could not be independently verified by this reporter as repeated enquiries did not bear any results at the time of going to print.
