The Namibia University of Science and Technology’s campus outside Eenhana in the Ohangwena region is up and running since 7 March.
“Key vacancies have been filled, and the necessary infrastructure to make the facility operational as a university campus has been installed,” said NUST spokesperson Nico Smit.
Normal registration ended last Friday, but special registration will still continue until 11 March 2022.
Smit emphasised that special registration is only for holders of the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary (NSSCO) and Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS) levels, and that no late registration will be afforded.
The campus, at the Billy William Mwaningange Rural Development Centre (BWMRDC) outside Eenhana, offers 46 different programmes in five different faculties.
It was built to accommodate only 428 students, but can cater for up to 2 000 students when utilised on a timetable rotation basis.
The dispute over the lease agreement between the Ohangwena Regional Council (ORC) and NUST, with the university requesting to utilise the facility rent-free, has been resolved.
The university would, however, not share details of the agreement as it is considered confidential.
From Thursday last week, there were 171 students registered at the Ohangwena campus, with 137 being distance students, 23 being full-time students and 11 part-time students.
Smit said the NUST campus is also considering the NSSCO students.
“Please note that we consider NSSCO (legacy and new) and IGCSE certificate holders if they meet the NUST entry requirements for specific study fields,” he added.
