A new Gam Kindergarten will soon become a reality. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place on Monday, 27 June.
Gam is a small town located 374 km east of Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region. The small kindergarten, which has been in operation for three years, is run by Ms Kamutati, who takes care of kids below the age of six years.

The initiative follows on from a request by Governor of the Otjozondjupa Region Otto Iipinge during the 25th Independence celebrations cement truckload handover in Kalkveld. At the time he approached Ohorongo Cement for assistance to establish a kindergarten at Gam.

Ohorongo Cement, through the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT), agreed support the project as part of its infrastructure and education pillar.

OOCT aims to assist with the creation of windows towards a better future for Namibia and its people, with an emphasis on education. Hence, the support for the kindergarten, which will have two classrooms and a soup kitchen.

The total value of the project, including sponsorships received from Henning Crushers and Independent Facility Services, is about N$500 000.

The groundbreaking was attended by Governor Iipinge, chairman of the Regional Council of Otjozondjupa Julius Neumbo and Markus Damaseb, on behalf of OOCT.

Governor Iipinge commended Ohorongo Cement for the example shown in supporting the Harambee Prosperity Plan and said it serves as a real example of what can and should be done. He urged other businesses to follow the example of Ohorongo Cement.
