Okakarara trade fair in full swing

Okakarara trade fair in full swing

After internal bickering nearly threw spanners in its works, the much-anticipated 16th edition of the Okakarara Annual Trade Fair is in full swing at the town’s trade centre, where hordes of businesses and vendors will be showcasing their products and services.

Chairperson of the organising committee Olga Tjiurutue confirmed that the setting-up and opening festivities of the trade fair officially kicked off on Monday.

The day saw various public, and private businesses as well as vendors setting up their stalls in anticipation of a busy week.

“The official opening will be on Thursday (tomorrow), and we have already extended the invitation to the patron of the Okakarara Annual Trade Fair, President Nangolo Mbumba, and we expect him to oversee the official opening of this year’s event. Despite what people saw and read in the newspapers, I can confirm now that the trade fair is on and underway as we speak and I’m urging everyone to come through and support our local businesses. As per tradition, all services from various institutions will again be available here; so, come through,” he said.

Tjiurutue, who is a former Okakarara mayor, also called on farmers from the constituency and surrounding areas to come on board, and showcase the quality of their animals.

“I know it’s a tough time for our farmers, especially against the backdrop of the current drought. But for those who can, please do come through and showcase what you have and come connect with other farmers. It’s your event, and I urge you all to make full use of it.”

Last year, close to 40 companies and scores of small and medium businesses exhibited their products and services, including government ministries, offices and agencies.

The agricultural show was one of the main attractions at the 2023 event, where upcoming communal and commercial farmers showcased their animals and various farming methods and techniques.
