OKONGO-Okongo constituency councillor Lebbeus Shipindo, who has also been appointed chairperson of the Ohangwena Regional Council, says that over 80% of villages in his constituency now have access to water, with each village having at least one borehole.

Shipindo, who retained his position as constituency councillor in the recently concluded 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections, is serving his second term.

In an interview with Nampa, Shipindo said he joined the Ohangwena Regional Council in 2020 as a councillor after resigning from his position as a registered nurse.

The 42-year-old Shipindo worked at Olukula Clinic, where he served as the managing nurse for 11 years. Highlighting his achievements,  Shipindo said that when he joined the council, the constituency had no running projects.

“As we speak now, Olukula has a poultry farm which produces eggs for the community. From these proceeds, we assist community members and schools. We also employ young people to work at this farm. There is also a garden there. I introduced quite a number of projects in the constituency and I am grateful to the public for voting for me and entrusting me with this position, once again,” Shipindo said.

One of his biggest achievements, he said, was entering into an agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security to assist community members with the issuing of national documents in Okongo.

Previously, he said, members of the public had to travel 100km to Eenhana to acquire national documents. As a councillor, he added, he has also entered into an agreement with the Angolan Embassy in Namibia to document Angolan nationals in the Okongo constituency, a programme he said runs every three months.

“These services are not limited to people in my constituency alone. People from other areas are also welcome to utilise these services. However, as the new chairperson of the regional council, I will ensure that every constituency implements this, to make the services easily accessible,” he added.

Highlighting another achievement, Shipindo said that his office sponsored 10 children from marginalised communities to study aircraft engineering and aviation between 2024 and 2025.
