The Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group is fully committed to the national agenda of creating a fair employment environment in Namibia.

The Group applauds and supports the Employment Equity Commission’s annual initiative to recognise and reward deserving employers in terms of section 5(9) of the Affirmative Action Act as these endeavours and initiatives fall in line with O&L’s Group purpose of “Creating a future, enhancing life” for all Namibians.

Pick n Pay (PnP) Namibia and Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) – both subsidiaries of the O&L Group – were recognised as leaders in the promotion of Employment Equity in Namibia and awarded 2nd place in the Best Performers category (PnP) and Overall Top Performer in the Workplace category (NBL) at the annual Employment Equity Commission Awards ceremony last week.

O&L said it was fully committed to transformation within the Namibian labour sector, and the Group’s dedication to growing a fairly balanced, honest and fair workforce is evident in the awards to two of the Group’s subsidiaries at the award ceremony.

The Affirmative Action (Employment) Act, 1998 (Act 29 of 1998) was passed by Parliament with a view to redress imbalances at workplaces, arising from the past discriminatory socio-economic dispensation.
The legislation is intended to foster fair employment practices with regard to recruitment, selection, appointment, training, promotion, and equitable remuneration for previously disadvantaged people, particularly the previously racially disadvantaged people, including women and persons with disabilities.

The overall objective of the Act is to achieve equity through the elimination of employment barriers against persons of designated groups.

O&L Human Capital Director, Berthold Mukuahima said transformation of workforces helps bring in new talent and equip the existing workforce with new skills, but it also presents and unlocks many opportunities for businesses.
“Businesses can use the process of workforce transformation to balance their demographic profiles.

“We are very proud of our subsidiaries, Pick n Pay Namibia and Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), for their outstanding achievements. We also congratulate all other companies and organisations that have been identified as promoters of employment equity,” Mukuahima said.
