Omaheke football team seeks new coach

The Omaheke Region’s U/20 football team is in search of a coach as part of their preparations for the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup.

The event is scheduled to take place in Outjo from 18 to 21 April.

The chairperson of the Omaheke Football Association, Theobald Kahuure, said the decision follows public dissatisfaction with the alleged “automatic appointment” of current coach Zuma Kavirombo.

Kavirombo, who has been involved with the U/20 team for nine years, four of which he served as an assistant coach, has faced criticism for his uninterrupted tenure without competition for the position.

“This has prompted us to respond with this search. We are requesting all interested candidates to apply. Even the current coach can apply,” Kahuure said.

Applicants must be from the Omaheke region, have three to five years of coaching experience, and hold a Namibia Football Association C Licence or equivalent certification.

Approached for comment, Kavirombo said he would apply for the position he served with dignity.

He wants to continue serving his region if given another opportunity to do so.

“I have served my region voluntarily for long. My achievements are self-explanatory. We won the Namibian Newspaper Cup in 2018 in the Zambezi region. We reached the quarterfinals in Hardap and Otjozondjupa in 2022 and 2023,” he said. -Nampa
