The long anticipated wait is almost over as Saturday 22 February,  marks the first race of the Bank Windhoek  Namibia National Enduro Championship, which will be held on the farm, Omakwara in the Witvlei area, 170km east of Windhoek.

“The track is known by many riders as the valley of a thousand turns. Smooth, red sanded and freshly scraped farm roads are the staple of the race and with the lovely rain that we have received, there should be no dust and the grip will be out of this world”, said Andreas Brendel, Chairman of the Namibia Enduro Club.

“Almost all riders love this track as it is physically less demanding on the body and therefore is the perfect race to kick off the 2014 season. That being said, it is also the venue for our fun event and we encourage everybody big, small, old and young to join the riders in the first event of the year. If you have a motorbike or quadbike, a helmet and some old clothes and a pair of tight shoes, the Namibian Enduro Club invites you to come out and have some fun, “he said.

There will be a separate class for the fun riders to enter in and you will only be riding 19km of the 49km route. There will also be a fenced-off kiddies track which is approximately 500m in length and is free of charge for any of the little ones want to ride.

For the National Bikes and Quads, there will be a slight change this year as there will be an interesting technical section which has been added in one of the marshes, which  should make the course a bit more challenging for the seasoned racers.

“The first race is always very exciting as all the riders are nervous to see who will perform the best. This is where they prove who did the most off-season training and everybody is very eager to show off their newly acquired skills,” added Brendel.

Both quads and bikes do well here but the fast and bendy route is more suited to Quad bikes. With the interesting track and new additions, the Namibia Enduro Club plans to beat last year’s record number of entries at Omakwara of 105.

After the race, there will be a lucky draw at prize-giving ceremony where everyone stand a chance to win one of many prizes.  Food and a beer tent will be available throughout the day. For entries and all other information, please visit www.namibianenduro.com .
