Omapumba and Tuck Lyn Bucks respectively won the netball and football categories of the 13th edition of the Okozonduzu open tournament at Okondjatu on Sunday.
The one-weekend tournament saw 24 football and 20 netball teams vie for cash prizes of N$35 000 in total. In the first netball semi-final Tuck Lyn Bucks defeated Bogolos from Otuumborombonga 28-18, while Omapumba overcame their counterparts from Ombujomenje 40-32 in the second semi-final.
Omapumba then won the netball series when they defeated Tuck Lyn Bucks with a 38-30 scoreline. Besides the N$5 000 prize money, the netball champions walked away with a trophy and 12 gold medals, while Tuck Lyn Bucks pocketed N$2 500 and 12 silver medals as runners-up.
Bogolos and Ombujomenje each pocketed N$1 250 for coming third. In the football category, Tuck Lyn Bucks overcame Okakarara-based Mission Eleven by 3-0 in the first semi-final followed by Omapumba up against Kwasa Kwasa from Okotjitundu.
Omapumba emerged as victors with a 3-0 scoreline. Tuck Lyn Bucks then won the football final when they defeated Omapumba 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw. The champion took home N$12 000, a trophy, plus 20 gold medals.
Omapupa pocketed N$7 000 and 20 silver medals as runners-up. Kwasa Kwasa and Mission Eleven in third place each took home N$3 000. The tournament was played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 state of emergency regulations.
