MultiChoice Namibia hosted Namibian creatives in the local television and film industry at a Showmax Women’s Day event in Windhoek in celebration of International Women’s Month recently.
Held under the theme ‘EmpowerHER: A Celebration of Namibian Women in Film and Television’, the event revealed that the Ombura local content project’s second phase of incredible local productions are now available for viewing on Showmax.
Speaking at the event, Elzita Beukes, MultiChoice Namibia Corporate Affairs Manager said Showmax, as an African streaming platform, is well-positioned to accelerate action even further, and to continue building a creative industry where women feel free to express themselves and their views of the continent and its culture.
“Providing more Namibian content on Showmax is a huge milestone for us – this means that we will be able to take our Namibian stories to even greater heights. I am excited about the opportunities for the Namibian film sector, and how we can amplify the talent and drive of Namibian women filmmakers, to accelerate gender empowerment across our continent,” she said.
The event featured a screening of Die Rooftog, a local Namibian comedy directed by Hildegard Titus, who expressed appreciation for the cast and crew of the film.
“I believe the production of this movie was so successful because I was carried by so many strong women, from the women who worked on the film to others,” she said.
For as little as N$45, you can enjoy eight fresh Namibian productions anywhere at any time, with the films falling under the banner ‘Namibian Films’ on Showmax.
For less than a lunch meal, you will be able to watch Africa’s top streaming platform, with content including Suits LA, White Lotus season 3, and the spicy new season of Adulting. And for football lovers, the Premier League is available as well, which you can now get on Showmax Mobile for just N$58.
