Ondangwa
The newly elected mayor of Ondangwa, Paavo Amwele, says the new council office-bearers are committed to providing residential and commercial plots to local residents.
Amwele, who was addressing a meeting at Oluno Community Hall in Ondangwa on Thursday, assured the community they would make an effort to provide plots to needy residents. “It’s not that plots were not previously issued to the residents, but as a new council that is our mission,” said Amwele.
Similarly, he said council would devise strategies to root out malfunctioning services around town, such as traffic lights that do not work and dilapidated road signs. Amwele said there are obsolete road signs around town that have not been attended to for several months, while it takes weeks before malfunctioning traffic lights are attended to. “All these things should come to an end,” said Amwele sternly.
Amwele also urged the residents of Ondangwa to take ownership and become equal partners in the town’s development, urging the residents to work closely with the council to avoid the blame-game. “We must become one. Hence, I’m calling on all our residents who have positive ideas to knock on our doors. Our doors are open to the public and we will appreciate any advice that will assist us to develop the town,” said the businessman-cum-politician.
He also stressed the need to maintain cleanliness in the town and urged residents to make use of refuse drums and refrain from discarding refuse around town.
“Perhaps [in the past] council also failed to put up refuse drums around town, but council will definitely ensure that we put up refuse dumps to ensure cleanliness in town,” said Amwele.
Currently, refuse drums are only provided to commercial and formal residential areas.
