The Project Room Namibia and StArt Art Gallery are pleased to present Actofel Ilovu’s latest solo exhibition ‘Onlooker’. This exhibition opens on 28 April 2023 at 18h00 and runs until 20 May at the Project Room along Julius Nyerere Street, Windhoek.
Ilovu will host a Linoleum block printmaking workshop on 13 May from 08h00 to 13h00. Entrance to the exhibition is free and all are welcome to attend the
exhibition opening.
A master of many different techniques, from 3D installations to 2D smoke paintings, Ilovu’s latest exhibition is largely a showcase of a body of linoleum block prints. In Ilovu’s work
the personal meets the political through the confluence of his materials and subject matter. Ilovu’s choice of materials is largely informed by his personal history, while his subject matter responds directly to his observation of contemporary Namibian society. These elements are brought together in his third solo exhibition titled ‘Onlooker’.
Ilovu was born in 1984 in Ondangwa and now lives in Windhoek. He graduated from the College of the Arts in 2010 and received his higher diploma in visual art and advertising
from the University of Namibia in 2016.
He is an integral part of the Namibian art community working as a curator and artist, conceptualizing both collaborative and solo projects.
The St Art Art Gallery works with some of Namibia’s most exciting contemporary artists
to curate critical projects that add to the growing archive of information available to researchers, collectors and art enthusiasts. The gallery was established in 2017 in Windhoek.
The Project Room Namibia was officially established in 2016. Created by Namibian jewellery designer and artist, Frieda Lühl, The Project Room presents an accessible local platform of creative expression and interactivity – a collaborative space to appreciate and interact with artists and their artworks.
