Oryx Properties welcomes new talent

Oryx Properties welcomes new talent

Leading Namibian property company, Oryx Properties, on Monday welcomed new participants to its comprehensive bursary and graduate programme, underscoring the company’s commitment to developing local talent in response to the property sector’s expanding opportunities.

At a formal welcome ceremony in Windhoek, CEO Ben Jooste introduced bursary candidates Laurika Ashipala and Rauna Shagama, alongside graduate Panduleni Ntinda, marking another milestone in the company’s ongoing investment in human capital development.

“This is an exciting event for us,” said Jooste. “These new team members bring new skills, different perspectives and positive attitudes that are sure to enhance our business. For us, this is much more than corporate social responsibility – we actively seek the best people and are excited about guiding and nurturing local talent to possible future leaders in our industry.”

The comprehensive programme includes four rotations across critical business areas, including property finance, operations, property management and asset management, providing participants with a holistic exposure to the property industry.

Jooste emphasised the strategic importance of skills development within Namibia’s evolving property landscape. “While specific employment data within the property sector remains limited, this sector represents a significant economic contributor, generating substantial employment across construction, multi-tenanted buildings and property management. As our property market recovers and investment increases, we’re witnessing job growth across multiple disciplines.”

“A growing country with an expanding economy will always need specialists in the property industry, making this an excellent field of study,” Jooste explained. “Given the sector’s growth trajectory and thriving nature, the Association of the Namibian Property Industry (NPA) places high value on continuing education. Our employees have the opportunity to learn and expand their knowledge to ensure we meet international standards.”

Samuel Hayford, representing the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), expressed his gratitude to Oryx Properties on behalf of participating students and NUST. “Your commitment to empowering young minds and investing in their future is truly commendable. These opportunities not only ease financial burdens on our students but also provide invaluable practical experience that will shape their careers and lives.”

The ceremony highlighted the programme’s proven success through testimonials from Amber Stein, who has transitioned to a permanent position as leasing administrator and Daniel Hammond, who graduated successfully and now joined the full-time Oryx Properties’ graduate programme. The graduates shared their appreciation for the comprehensive learning experience and encouraged new participants to “work hard, be proactive, curious, open-minded and learn as much as possible.”

Oryx stated that where possible, graduates will be considered for permanent appointments upon successful completion of their programme tenure, ensuring sustainable career pathways within Namibia’s property sector.
