Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to five years in jail for the culpable homicide of Reeva Steenkamp, by the High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday. For discharging a firearm at Tasha’s restaurant in January 2013 he was sentenced to three years in jail, suspended for five years. Both sentences would run concurrently.
Steenkamp was shot through the locked toilet door of the athlete’s Pretoria home on Valentine’s Day last year. Nicknamed “Blade Runner” after the carbon-fibre prostheses on which he propelled himself to fame and fortune, the paralympian sprint athlete had ended the previous year at the top of his game. – Nampa/SAPA
