Oshakati boxing bonanza promises fireworks

Oshakati boxing bonanza promises fireworks

An exciting boxing bonanza is set to take place this weekend at the Oshakati Independence Stadium, with the organisers promising a jaw-dropping event.

The bonanza is being organised and hosted by leading amateur boxing stable MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club.

It will see about 20 bouts on the day, with various amateur boxing clubs in the northern part of the country battling it out for top honours.

Top and promising amateur boxer from the stable, Trofimus Johannes, will headline the bonanza.

In an interview yesterday, he said he is ready to solidify his position as one of the top amateur boxers in the northern regions.

“We have had a very challenging year. Despite facing challenges this year, I’m focused on the future,” Johannes said. “Saturday’s fight is a big opportunity for me to showcase my skills in front of my home crowd. I’m excited to give them a great show,” he said.

While Johannes is currently focused on his amateur career, he has not ruled out a potential transition to the professional ranks.

“I am not sure about turning professional anytime soon, but me and my coach will have to sit down and speak about that. I believe it’s something that I have to consult with my stable and parents. But I am excited about the future,” he added.

The bonanza is not only about the sport, but also about civic engagement.

It is being held to encourage voters to participate in the upcoming national elections.

Joseph Bernhard, the club’s owner and promoter, expressed his satisfaction with the preparations for the event.

“We just had a press conference this morning. We are trying to finalise everything ahead of Saturday’s bonanza. I am happy with the team, and how they are dealing with everything on the ground. Boxers are ready. We have spoken to the medic who will assist on Saturday. Overall, I believe most of the things are ready,” he said.
