OSHAKATI – Young Chiefs will this weekend lock horns with rivals Golden Bigs in the traditional Bidvest Cup preliminary round for the North-West Stream First Division, at the Oshakati Independence Stadium at 12h00 tomorrow.
Young Chiefs will go into the match with an upper hand following three resounding victories over Bigs last season.
Bigs have struggled to cope with Chiefs’ high-intensity pressing game in the previous games, and will this time be expected to pull up their socks and match their opponents in all departments if they are to progress to the next phase of the competition, slated for next weekend.
Chiefs will rely on the experience of their gigantic midfielder Nikanor Kapuka, who is tough as steak, and their goal-scoring machine Nuuyoma ‘Koppe’ Castro, to increase their tally to four victories in a row.
However, Chiefs will have trouble containing Golden Bigs’ prolific striker Mwaala ‘Fefe’ Fessy, who is in form and is expected to give Chiefs defence a good run for their money.
Chiefs mentor, Damian ‘The War Veteran’ Shuumbwa, said his players are ready and will confront Bigs fully aware of what Chiefs are capable of. “Tactical discipline will be key against Bigs if we are to overpower our neighbours.”
In other action, UNAM Ogongo will entertain Oshikuku Young Stars, while Robber Chanties take on Life Fighters as KK Palace welcome Golden Bees, while Onambula United will have a date with Eleven Warriors and African Lions host Black Africa Warriors.
The final is scheduled for Sunday at Oshakati Independence Stadium.
