OSHAKATI – The Oshakati Town Council on Monday held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a N$10.5 million gravity sewer network and water reticulation system for Oshakati North Extension 12, and Portion Extension One.
The project, which started on Friday last week, is expected to be completed in eight months. It also includes the upgrading of roads to bitumen standard, extending from the tarred road near the NaTIS office and the police headquarters in Extension 3 to the NHE houses.
This project includes additional paved sidewalks and stormwater infrastructure.
In his remarks, Oshakati mayor Leonard Hango said infrastructure is the backbone of development in any locality.
“These projects will empower the community to thrive in ways they could only imagine before. Improved services, better mobility and economic stimulation are just some of the benefits we can look forward to,” he said.
He noted that the projects are not isolated developments, but are part of a broader strategic plan for the council to build a sustainable and prosperous Oshakati.
“By investing in water, sanitation, and roads, we are addressing key challenges while laying the groundwork for long-term growth and resilience.”
Hango urged all residents of Oshakati to support and embrace these developments, take pride in what they are building, and commit to maintaining and safeguarding the infrastructure for generations to come.
He said the construction of the gravity sewer network and water reticulation system will be done by S. Shikongo Construction and Renovations CC, while the upgrade of roads to bitumen standard will be done by Sash Trading & Earth Works CC.
