Oshakati to host Miss Womalenga Beauty Pageant

OSHAKATI – The Oshakati Town Council has announced the launch of the Miss Womalenga Beauty Pageant.

The groundbreaking event is set to take place on 31 May as part of the Totem Expo event.

The event, which is the first of its kind, aims to celebrate and honour mature Namibian women, giving them a platform to showcase their cultural heritage and traditional values.

Council spokesperson Katarina Kamari said the event is open to Namibian women aged 35 and above, including married women, who are often overlooked in traditional beauty contests.

The event was created to give mature women the opportunity to shine, as most pageants typically focus on younger contestants.

“The Miss Womalenga pageant will be part of the Totem Omazimo festivities, reinforcing the importance of cultural pride and identity,” Kamari stated.

She added that the pageant not only celebrates beauty, but also the rich cultural diversity of Oshakati and surrounding communities.

She said interested women can obtain application forms from the Oshakati Town Council office for a fee of N$100.

“The competition will feature three rounds designed to honour cultural heritage. Round one is the introduction, dress code and representing your clan in the most elegant and authentic way possible. Round two is praising of totems, dress code, dress to reflect your totem,’’ she revealed.

Kamari added that round three is questions and answers, dress code and showing creativity through traditional attire of choice.

Contestants will answer one culture-related question.

Winners will receive cash prizes of N$5 000 in first place, second place will receive N$3 000, and third place will receive N$2 000.

Kamari encouraged women to take advantage of this unique opportunity, noting that it is a celebration of cultural heritage and womanhood.

“The Miss Womalenga Beauty Pageant promises to be a vibrant and inspiring addition to the Totem Expo, highlighting the grace, knowledge and tradition of mature Namibian women,’’ she stated.
