ONGWEDIVA – Pauline Shapumba has been appointed as the new director of education for the Oshana region, effective 1 July 2024.
She brings a wealth of experience and qualifications, including an honours degree in education, a master’s degree in education and a master’s degree in business administration with a focus on public sector management.
She previously served as deputy director for lifelong learning at the directorate of education in the Omusati region.
She replaces Hileni Amukana, who went into retirement last year.
In an exclusive interview with New Era yesterday, Shapumba said she will focus on ensuring effective and efficient quality teaching and learning take centre-stage at schools in the region to improve the academic performance of learners in all grades.
She added she will strive for improved operational efficiency within the directorate by ensuring maximum time on task, and expediting systems and processes to improve service delivery.
“The third priority is to foster beneficial relationships with all stakeholders. I strongly believe that in stakeholders lie the resources, opportunities, information, expertise and wisdom needed to support the attainment of educational goals in the region,” Shapumba said. She further said, “I am filled with enthusiasm to begin this new journey of my life to serve as a director of education, arts and culture in the Oshana region. I am excited, but also acknowledge that this position comes with a significant task to be accomplished – and with that, I pledge my allegiance to fulfil my responsibilities with utmost sincerity and humility, as well as to promote team cohesion because I believe that as long as we have a dedicated team aiming for the common goal, anything can be achieved.”
