Oshikandela stirs love for mathematics

Mathematics transcends mere numerical figures. It encompasses critical thinking, creativity and innovation.

These were the sentiments during a visit by the Oshikandela team from Namibia Dairies at Ella Du Plessis High School.

The team was hosted by the school’s Mathematics Club.

The event transcended mere enjoyment of Oshikandela’s delectable products.

It was a celebration of the relevance and beauty of mathematics in daily life.

The session commenced with an enlightening presentation that underscored the essential role of mathematics in product development, distribution and marketing within the dairy sector.

A particularly engaging aspect of the session was the interactive math challenge, crafted by the Oshikandela team, which allowed students to tackle real-world mathematical problems.

“Our club has always focused on sharpening our math skills, but this session showed us how math connects to real careers and industries,” said Josephine Nuulimba, one of the founding members of the Mathematics Club.

The students were motivated to observe how the mathematical principles they are currently learning are used to address challenges in sectors such as Namibia Dairies.

“Oshikandela also generously provided some of their iconic products to refresh the learners during the session, ensuring everyone stayed energised and engaged. It was a perfect blend of education and enjoyment. We are incredibly grateful to Oshikandela and Namibia Dairies for their partnership and investment in our future mathematicians,” she said.

The marketing manager of Namibia Diaries, Dalinka Alberto, said the objective of the visit was to provide the club with insights about Namibia Dairies and Oshikandela.

Additionally, it aimed to engage participants in an enjoyable quiz, featuring applied mathematics questions related to the dairy industry. “We loved meeting the math club students and engaging with everyone. We will see what future engagements can look like, and where we can come in,” she noted.

She commended the teachers for their enthusiastic and proactive methods, their passion for mathematics and dedication to shaping a promising future for themselves and their peers.

“We further sincerely recognise Ella du Plessis High School for empowering its students to take an active part in their learning and future. This proactive ownership aligns perfectly with Namibia Dairies’ vision of empowering everyone to reach their full potential,” she said.
