WINDHOEK – The second Otavi Investment Expo & Festival is scheduled to take place next month and organisers expect to attract close to 3 000 visitors.
Last year a total of 1 500 visitors passed through the gates of the expo, and hence the ambitious plan to double this year’s figures, according to the town’s mayor Markus Damaseb, who made the announcement during the launch of the expo over the weekend. The expo is slated for April 23 to 26. “The maiden expo was indeed a success and that interest in the town has boomed resulting in the increased influx of businesses and this has resulted in the town gaining much needed exposure countrywide,” Damaseb said. The chairperson of the Otavi Investment Expo & Festival, Rino Muranda said they would like to sustain the momentum started last year. Last year there were no incidents of crime, because of the excellent co-operation from the community. A fundrising gala dinner is also scheduled for April 5 in Otjiwarongo and Muranda has urged interested corporates to book in advance as seats and tables are limited and going fast. Muranda also invited aspiring exhibitors to book their stalls early to avoid disappointment and also because exhibition space is limited.
The expo is also expected to host a business investors’ conference under the theme – ‘Accelerating access to land’ and all SMEs in and around Otavi are invited to participate. The organisers have billed the world-renowned South African comedian Loyiso Gola to grace the event during his first ever visit to Namibia with performances scheduled for Windhoek on April 24 and in Otavi on April 25.
