Otjipupa Investment Group recently handed over a cheque of N$30 000 to the Ngatuuane Farmers Union as part of its commitment to social development in the northern parts of the Kunene Region last week.
Chris Katjitundu, Managing Director, Otjipupa Investment Group, said at the occasion that Otjipupa Investment Group is the holder of a tourism concession in the northern part of the Skeleton Coast National Park. The concession is operated by Prime Communications, represented at this ceremony of the cheque handover by Ilsje du Plooy, Managing Director of Prime Communications and wife of the late Piet du Plooy.
The funds will be used to support farmers in Kaokoland that have experienced poor rainfall for the past three rainy seasons. The Trust intends to help the farmers with subsidies for lick and feed as from October 2015.
The communities of Kaokoland expressed their concern as to the lack of development in their region during the recent visit to the region by the government delegation led by Vice President Dr Nickey Iyambo.
“Tourism development has been identified by our government as one of the most promising ways in which to uplift the living standard and to eradicate the poverty of our Namibia communities, and therefore tourism concessions such as the Kunene Mouth concession awarded to Otjipupa Investment Group are crucially important.
“I would like to assure the Ngatuuane Farmers Union and the whole community that this donation marks the start of a mutually beneficial relationship, and that from now on the community will benefit with every guest that is brought into the magical area that is the Skeleton Coast Park.
“To this end, I would like to assure our President and your Government of our commitment as a community based organisation to work hand in hand with the government, to fight and kick-out poverty and hunger among our Namibian Nation forever,” he concluded.
