The Otjiwarongo constituency’s Under-20 football trials are set to take place at the Mokati Sports Stadium in Otjiwarongo tomorrow.
Jeaneth Kaundje, a sports officer within the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, told Nampa they plan to identify 20 talented young men to form a dedicated constituency squad.
“They will be prepared by us so that on 27 February, they are fit to represent the Otjiwarongo constituency in the regional football trials planned for Grootfontein,” Kaundje said.
The Grootfontein trials will serve as the final selection phase for the Otjozondjupa regional team, which will go on to represent the Otjozondjupa region at the prestigious 2026 The Namibian Newspaper Cup tournament, which is set to take place in Keetmanshoop.
To be eligible for selection, aspiring players must have been born on or after 1 January 2007. The trials will run throughout the day tomorrow, from 08h00 to 19h00.
“The parents of these boys are also requested to accompany or allow their boys to come to Mokati Sports Stadium for this important constituency tournament,” Kaundje said.
She further announced that trials for the Otjiwarongo Under-20 netball team are scheduled for 7 February at the same venue. The officials aim to select 15 girls to represent the constituency at the regional netball tournament in Grootfontein on 27 February.
