Otjozondjupa prepares for The Namibian Newspaper Cup

The Otjozondjupa Region’s U/20 football and netball teams have started to prepare for the 2025 The Namibian Newspaper Cup tournament.

Trials are set for this weekend at Otjiwarongo.

Officials of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service are organising the trials for both football and netball teams.

Sport officer Jeaneth Kaundje in an interview with Nampa yesterday said the trials are expected to be held on 8 March at the Mokati Sports Stadium.

“These efforts are all aimed at preparing the region’s Under-20 football and netball teams, as the annual The Namibian Newspaper tournament is approaching, since it is set to kick off on 18 April in Outjo in Kunene region,” she said.

Kaundje said the best players will be selected at the trials to represent the region at the games.

She urged all aspiring players to bring along their national identification documents for the trials.

She added that players without an ID and birth certificate will not be allowed to participate in the selection process.

Potential players for both football and netball teams are those born from 1 January 2006, Kaundje said.

She called on parents to support their children where possible, as the regional management for the U/20 is only capable of transporting the potential players to and from the stadium.

Players should be at the stadium by 08h00.
