Otumborombonga, Heroes set eyes on retaining Okamatapati cup

Otumborombonga netball team and Black Heroes FC are aiming to defend the  Felix Tjozongoro Okamatapati tournament scheduled for Saturday at Okamatapati Combined School sport field in Otjozondjupa region. 

The two formidable sides won the prestigious tournament last year.

Speaking to New Era Sports, Otumborombonga coach Ngajoo Kavetuna said his netball team is prepared and ready and will fight for the title again.

“Our target is to win the final, my girls are in the camp and we don’t have any serious injuries. We eye nothing but glories,” he said.

Kavetuna added that Otumborombonga football team lost in the final last year against defending champions Black Heroes of Okamatapati. 

“We want to win both netball and football competitions. The players are motivated and we can’t wait for the tournament kickoff,” he said among others.Black Heroes FC captain Janee Tumuna on his part said the team is ready to battle it out in the tournament they won last year. 

“We will start where we ended. Our players are all fit and we don’t have any excuses but to retain our Cup. We are fully prepared and the Cup will left no stone unturned to defend this Cup,” said.

Tumuna added that the team is working on the consistency as all players who won the competition are available. “We have a clean health bill and all our weapons are ready to crush whatever comes our way,” he said amongst others.

The Felix Tjozongoro Annual Okamatapati Tournament established with the aim of reviltalising and entertainment industry in the Okamatapati community and the surrounding areas.

So far, the much anticipated rural tournament has attracted close to 20 teams and the drw is expected to be made on Friday. 

This year, an amount of N$35 000 is up for grabs among the winning teams of which an amount of N$23 000 is set for football category, while netball is given N$7 000 in addition to trophies and medals. 

There is also a beauty contest for the villages’ teams where an additional N$5000 is up for grabs. 

The winner in football competition will take home a cash prize of N$11 000, runners
N$6 000 and N$3 000 for each semi-finalist. 

In the netball category, the winner will pocket N$4 000, runners up N$ 2 000, and each semi-finalist will walk away with N$1 000 cash.

The Miss Okamatapati will take home N$2 500, while the first princess will pocket  N$1 500 and N$ 1000 is earmarked for the second princess.
