WINDHOEK – The 20-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his 19-year-old-girlfriend to death while in hospital at Outjo on Tuesday admitted the deed in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court.
Hendrik ‘Namab’ Nowaseb told Magistrate Clara Mwillima that he stabbed Wlhelmina Tsauses after she ended their relationship.
He told the magistrate that he became angry when she told him that the relationship was over and he took out his knife and stabbed her several times.
During a Section 119 plea he told the magistrate that he went back to the hospital the Sunday to see if she changed her mind, but she apparently told him that it was over and she did not want to see him again.
This made him even angrier, he told the court, and he proceeded to stab her again.
Nowaseb was not granted bail and will return to court on February 06 next year.
On enquiry with the police on whether or not a victim of a violent crime is entitled to police protection while in hospital, New Era was told that it is not normally the case, but victims who are afraid that the perpetrator may return to finish the job may request such protection.
While they are not required by law, the police will protect a victim if such circumstances do arise.
Asked why it did not happen in the case of Tsauses, New Era was told that she was happened upon by a routine patrol in the street and requested the officers to take her to hospital.
She was then taken to hospital where she was admitted due to the stab wounds she suffered, but she did not apparently make a statement to the police.
