Last week Friday saw teachers and learners at Brendan Simbwaye Primary school being rewarded for outstanding performances.

The awards ceremony, the first of its kind for the school, rewarded over 361 learners and 14 teachers for excelling in sports and school subjects.

Speaking during the ceremony the chief inspector of education, Leonard Sinvula, emphasised the importance of parents’ involvement in the education of their children, adding that doing so is a catalyst for success.

“Educating our children should be a shared responsibility with the community at large. The involvement of parents in educating their children is the key to success. Parents are empowered through school boards to play a significant role in the management and smooth running of our schools,” said Sinvula.

Brendan Simbwaye Primary School, named after liberation struggle hero Brendan Simbwaye, is one of the best performing schools in Zambezi Region.

With over 1 500 learners in grades one to seven it is said to be the most populated primary school in the region. The school, which is located in Katima Mulilo, opened its doors in 2000.
