The principal of the Omuvee combined school in the Ohangwena Region, Julia Mhanda, donated a consignment of second-hand clothing to the Kunene Regional Council yesterday (Thursday).

The clothing was wrapped in a 60 kg bag.

They will be channeled to the Ovatua people soon.

Kunene Regional Council’s Deputy Director of Finance, Julia Shafuda, together with Deputy Director of Administration, Sandra Nakale, received the donation.

The donation was delivered by Nailoke David who represented Mhanda.

“On behalf of madam Mhanda, I encourage other people to do the same and even donate big,” said David.

Ovatua are also Ovahimba but are still prominently hunters and gatherers of wild fruits to date.

They live in the Opuwo and Epupa constituencies at villages such as Otjitanga, Okauu, Ohamaremba, Orue, Ehomba, Otjimuhaka, Okangwati, Epupa falls and Enyandi.

Otjitanga, Okauu and Enyandi are severely affected by the prevailing drought.
This was the third pledge so far this year to the Ovatua people.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare and the First Lady, Penehupifo Pohamba, have tendered donations already.
