Over 3 000 runners expected at the 34th Rössing marathon

The Rössing National Marathon Championship is set to make its triumphant return for the 34th consecutive year on 8 March 2025 at Swakopmund.

Rössing Corporate Communications manager Daylight Ekandjo was thrilled to announce that over 3,000 runners are expected to take part in this iconic event. “This year’s marathon promises to be bigger and better than ever, with participants from around the country and world ready to conquer the course and make history,” she said.

It has become a popular event on the sporting calendar in Namibia, which draws runners of all skills’ levels, from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic amateurs.

As one of the premier running events on the Athletics Namibia calendar, the Rössing Marathon is known not only for its challenging course, but also for its inspiring atmosphere that unites the community and celebrates health, fitness and perseverance at this coastal town.

“The 34th edition of our marathon is a remarkable milestone. We are excited to welcome all the runners to Swakopmund, and are ready to make it a memorable event for both new and returning runners”, said Ekandjo.

The race will feature a full marathon (42.2 km) as well as shorter race categories, including a half-marathon (21.1 km) and 10 km run, allowing athletes of all abilities to join in the excitement. Spectators will be treated to the energy and enthusiasm of runners as they navigate scenic routes through the beautiful town, with designated water points to support the participants every step of the way.

In addition to the race, the event will include a 5km fun walk in support of the Cancer Association of Namibia. “We encourage families to come out in numbers to support this noble initiative of the 5km fun walk,” she added.
