Over Work-Whopped-Slower Workers

John Ekongo

Don’t be misled by the title, notwithstanding, should you do then do it with a hint of very subtle caution. Allow me to be open and candid with you colleagues, comrades and what we have; all protocol observed. If ever there was a moment I needed to be serious, then I best mention that this is the right time. Please bear with me temporarily, I shall return later to justify the title above.

There is undeniably no doubt about my fondness for this country of ours. Its uniqueness is unmatched and this I am sure a lot of you will nod your head in unison with me.

But so long that is where I also dread, to some extent, the uniqueness of being Namibian. Sometimes it can be frustrating. And now to return to my title, technically I am workshop material and so I am the other average Namibian fortunate enough to be closer to the Government or in the civil service.

The first time I came across the terms that Namibia is “overwork-shopped-slow working, proper conferenced-lesser convinced and over consulted-underdeveloped” I took it unkindly, simply that it comes from a very harsh non-resident critic. It’s best I mention no names.

A refreshed mind later and armed with work experience, thank you largely to our Comrade Minister, I am now a full-fledged average workshopped Namibian material. And that is where the straw ends.

So the question is then what next. Exactly what then? ???_?_’???_?’???_???
