WINDHOEK – FNB Namibia says it has experienced an increase in temporary overdraft requests from farmers because of the drought in the country. Nevertheless, the bank says it has not experienced “a noticeable decrease in the loan repayment which could be associated with the prevailing dry conditions”. Further, the bank says farmers are honouring their repayment agreements.

“We are encouraging farmers to contact their respective banks should they experience any challenges. We are perfectly aware and understand that agriculture is by nature a cyclical environment. We are therefore sensitive to the challenges faced by our farmers and we ensure that each request is considered on the merit it deserves,” said the head of the Agriculture Banking Division at FNB Namibia, Christo Viljoen.

Viljoen says the bank has an open door policy and encourages all farmers to talk to the bank in time before the situation gets worse and cannot honour their commitments towards the bank.
