Filipino boxing legend Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao has thrown his support behind Namibia’s rising boxing star, Flame “SpecialOne” Nangolo, ahead of his WBO Africa Super Featherweight title defence on 16 August at the Roman Catholic Hall in Windhoek.

Pacquiao, who is currently training in Las Vegas for his comeback bout against WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios, took time out of camp to endorse Nangolo and rally for greater support from the Namibian government and private sector.

“Flame Nangolo is a special talent. He represents hope and greatness for Namibian boxing,” said Pacquiao. “I urge the Namibian government and corporates to support this young man as he climbs to the top.”

The eight-division world champion also applauded the efforts of Imms Moses, founder of AC Promotions, for developing young talent in Namibia, often without the benefit of major sponsorships.

“Moses is doing a fantastic job with the youth,” Pacquiao said. 

“It’s never easy when you’re building from the ground, but this is how champions and great promoters are made. Flame must be patient and focused, the world title is just within reach.”

Pacquiao’s longtime advisor Sean Gibbons, echoed the boxing legend’s sentiments, highlighting Moses’ commitment and vision in bringing world class opportunities to Namibia.

“For a young promoter in Africa to facilitate a WBO title fight is no small feat,” Gibbons stated. “Moses has shown remarkable dedication and it speaks volumes about his work ethics and the potential of Namibian boxing.”

With Nangolo set to defend his title in less than a month, AC Promotions continues its call for increased support from both the public and private sectors. The team believes that with the right backing, Namibia can produce champions capable of competing and winning on the global stage.
